2025.04.13 | When the Wind Hit My Face

This blog is based on the sermon from April 13, 2025.
I’ll never forget the first time I truly felt like Peter, not the bold, brave Peter stepping out in faith... but the panicked, sinking Peter. It was the moment I became a parent for the first time. No matter how much you prepare, no matter how many books you read, nothing truly prepares you for holding that tiny baby in your arms and feeling the weight of responsibility crash down on you. All of a sudden, fear crept in. Was I ready for this? Was I enough to care for this little one?

That feeling of overwhelming fear was real and raw. It felt like stepping out of the boat into a sea of uncertainty. But in those moments, I was reminded of something Jesus taught His disciples. This week’s message hit me deeply: “Jesus meets small faith with big faithfulness.”

I didn’t need perfect faith.

I didn’t need to have it all together.

I just needed to cry out, “Lord, save me!”

And just like Peter, Jesus was there to catch me. In the moments when fear seemed bigger than my faith, He was steadying me, reaching out with His faithfulness.
For those of us stepping into something new, whether it’s parenthood, a new job, a big decision, or even a new season of life... remember, you don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t need perfect faith. What you need is faith in the One who is perfectly faithful. Jesus meets you where you’re at, and He promises to hold you up, even when your faith feels small.

If you’re walking through a difficult season or facing something that scares you, know this: you are not alone. Jesus is with you, meeting your faith with His faithfulness. So whatever it is that you’re stepping into, trust Him. He’s ready to meet you there.

Reflection Questions:
  1. What’s a “step out of the boat” moment in your life where you’ve had to trust Jesus with something new or uncertain?
  2. When fear tries to overwhelm you, how can you remind yourself of God's faithfulness and His presence in your life?
