2025.09.07 | The Sign That’s Already Enough

This blog is based on the sermon from September 7, 2025
“The only sign I’ll give you is the sign of Jonah.”
— Matthew 16:4
How often do we find ourselves asking God for a sign?
“Lord, just show me what to do.”
 “Give me a clear answer.”

The Pharisees in Matthew 16 did the same. They wanted proof that Jesus was who He claimed to be. But instead of giving them a miracle on demand, Jesus pointed to something greater: His death, burial, and resurrection... the ultimate sign of God’s love and power.

The truth is, the cross and the empty tomb are more than enough. They remind us that:
  • Jesus already carried our sin.
  • Jesus already conquered death.
  • Jesus already gave us hope that lasts forever.

And yet, just like the Pharisees, we can miss Him.
  • We get so caught up in career goals or financial worries that we forget Jesus is our true security.
  • We lean on relationships for identity instead of remembering that Christ calls us beloved children of God.
  • We obsess over self-improvement, while overlooking the finished work of the cross.

We pray for God to prove Himself, forgetting He already has... through His Son.

When we start chasing after signs, we risk missing the Savior who’s standing right in front of us. This week, instead of asking God for proof, let’s rest in the proof He’s already given,  Jesus Himself.

Reflection Question

Where in your life do you need to stop waiting for a sign and start trusting the Savior?
