2025.02.23 | Finding the Ultimate Treasure
This blog is based on the sermon from February 23, 2025.
Imagine stumbling upon a treasure so valuable that you’d give up everything to have it. If you had asked me a few years ago what my greatest treasure was, I would have probably pointed to my family, my career, or maybe even my financial security. But over time, I’ve realized that none of these things, no matter how wonderful, can compare to the treasure Jesus offers us in His Kingdom.
This past Sunday at Hope Community, we explored Matthew 13:44: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” It’s a short but powerful parable that made me stop and ask: Do I really see God’s Kingdom as my greatest treasure?

Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” It’s a short but powerful parable that made me stop and ask: Do I really see God’s Kingdom as my greatest treasure?
I thought about my priorities, my time, and my investments. Do I chase after temporary things more than I pursue God? If I truly believe that Jesus is the greatest treasure, then my life should reflect that… through my time with Him, my generosity, and my willingness to let go of things that hold me back from following Him fully.
One part of the sermon that stood out to me was the idea that Jesus Himself gave up everything for us. Our pastor illustrated this by reminding us how Jesus left the glory of heaven, lived a life of humility, and ultimately sacrificed Himself on the cross… all because He saw us as His treasure.
He saw us as His treasure, and with joy, He gave His life to redeem us.
That’s overwhelming love.
And if Jesus saw me as worth that sacrifice, then surely, I can trust Him with my whole life.
I don’t know where you’re at today. Maybe you feel distant from God, maybe you’re wrestling with what it means to truly follow Him. But I encourage you… seek Him. He is worth more than anything this world can offer. The joy and peace He gives is something no money, success, or earthly security can provide.
So let’s challenge each other this week to take one step toward investing in God’s Kingdom, whether that means setting aside intentional time for prayer, serving someone in need, or sharing Jesus with a friend. Let’s live as people who truly believe we have found the greatest treasure. Let’s invest in things that last: our faith, our families, our communities, and sharing the love of Christ with those around us.
If you’re struggling to see Jesus as your treasure, I’d love to talk and pray with you. And if you’re discovering this truth for the first time, welcome to the greatest adventure of all.
